La Festa de Rosa

Last year I hosted what I hoped would become an annual tradition in our lives — La Festa de Rosa — A Celebration of the Sisterhood mother-daughter luncheon.

It’s no secret that between me and insanity over the years have been my girlfriends, so I wanted a gorgeous way to celebrate the amazing friends I’ve been blessed to have in my life (since I was a teenager sneaking out of windows), our mothers who have put up with us through it all, and our beautiful daughters who are all blossoming into divine, sassy, hilarious and personality-full young women that we can’t wait to see grow into kind-hearted, bold-minded and brave-hearted women of the future.

Basically it was to be an annual festival of all things PINK: flowers, friendship, food and French bubbles to cheers our friendships, mothers, daughters, daughters-in-law-to-be, sisters, sisters-in-law and everyone who keeps us sane!

Sadly, this year, COVID had other ideas. At times some of my closest friendships were tested — funny how distance and different realities can do that. And other friendships blossomed when border closures meant one of my dearest friends returned home. She literally kept me sane the entire year — insisting I join a pilates class when I was feeling down, going for a walk to get me out of the house, or even helping me with my tax return.

COVID also meant our annual event couldn’t happen, so we returned to our original girls’ luncheon this year. The good news is we still had a laugh, swapped stories and reminded ourselves that we’re all doing our best. And I have no doubt we’ll begin planning the next La Festa de Rosa — when numbers and time allow us to organise it properly.

Meanwhile, here’s to the sisterhood — and celebrating that friendship is really the only gift we need.
